Peggy in the bookstore at the Strozzi Palace, shot through a prism toy.

Monday, September 19

Today’s main event was a visit to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, but we detoured through the Strozzi Palace on the way, and checked out the courtyard.

The courtyard of the Museo, with John the Baptist about to lose his head. The Museo holds statuary taken from the Duomo during its numerous architectural revisions, and there’s a wooden model of Brunelleschi’s dome upstairs.

In the Museo.

Della Robia’s choir loft, some of the first sculpture to feature children.

A few of the loft panels.

After leaving the Museo, we were able to peek in the window of the Museo studio, where statues and ornaments are repaired or copied, an ongoing job.

From the Duomo neighborhood we walked over to the Piazza S.S. Annunziata, and here I found a dice game going on, appropriately, at the Hospital of the Innocents.

Facing the Piazza is the Santissima Annunziata church, with an unprepossessing exterior, but with a quietly amazing chapel.
